MUMBAI: Senior citizens in India are not so intimidated by technology as commonly perceived to be. Net-using senior citizens, or Senior Netizens, will cross the 3 million mark in 2007-2008, according to a dipstick survey by the Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), a trade organization related to commerce and content through the Internet and mobile media. The percentage penetration is expected to remain the same or increase marginally from the current 2.7 percent to 3 percent, says the survey conducted in collaboration with Crosstab Marketing Services. The top five cities where senior Netizens are active are Delhi, which has 23 percent of these Netizens, Mumbai (22 percent), Chennai (12 percent), Hyderabad (4 percent) and Bangalore (3 percent). Most of the senior Internet surfers access the net from their homes, followed by usage from offices and cyber cafes. Thirty one percent actually use their credit cards online, 16 percent their debit cards and 9 percent both.
