New Delhi: Publishing house MBD group will invest 1 billion ($25 million) within the next three years to develop customised educational e-contents for schools, corporate houses and those preparing for competitive examinations. "Cyberspace is the new gateway for delivering education and our effort is to capture it to push our educational contents," Monica Malhotra Kandhari, senior director of MBD group, said Wednesday. "We have already invested nearly 300 million in the last eight months and would invest an additional 1 billion within the next three years. From a product-based company, we are reinventing ourselves as a service company," Kandhari told IANS. The company will create customised services for "well-defined verticals" such as content business, technology in education, teacher training modules, campus solutions, retail and technology services among others. E-learning is considered to be the future in delivering content. According to an estimate, the e-learning market was about $7 billion in 2004 and is expected to touch $28 billion by the end of the current year. A.K. Malhotra, managing director of the 10-billion MBD group said that the new initiative would function under the banner of MBD Alchemie. "It endeavours to become India's mass education offering gateway through dissemination of high quality standardised content across the country. We are spreading our wings as the complete content service provider," Malhotra said. He said the content would be provided through an interactive web portal. "It will be a knowledge portal but will be excellent on its user interface, navigation and high level of interactivity." He said IBM would provide technology support. "In future IBM will also promote MBD Alchemie services both in India and abroad through our huge network," said Ramesh Narasimhan of IBM. Kandhari said students, executives and those preparing for competitive exams could log in and register their name. They could avail services round the clock as per their requirement and convenience. "Our students can ask questions directly to an expert, interact with teachers and take part in a mock test to hone their skill and capability," Kandhari said.
