Indian market excites Motorola

NEW DELHI: Global communications major Motorola on Wednesday said it was "excited" about opportunities in the Indian market and was looking at increasing its presence in the country, but did not divulge investment plans. "We will be increasing our presence here in engineering particularly in IT professionals... We do not have a specific targets yet," Mike S Zafirovski, president and chief operating officer of Motorola (Global) told reporters on sidelines of a Ficci seminar here. The company currently has 1500 employees in India, he said adding, "The number will be going up." "We are very excited about the opportunities here. Our business presence here will be increasing very soon," he added. Asked about the growth witnessed by the company in the Indian market, he said, "We have doubled our revenues in 2002 over 2001. We expect to increase it signifficantly in 2003 and 2004." He, however, declined to divulge investment details for India.
