Indian firms to hold industrial show in Myanmar

YANGON: Indian companies will hold a four-day industrial show here from Feb 19 to 22 to promote trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, reports Xinhua. On display at the "Made in India" show, sponsored by the Indian embassy and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), would be iron and steel products, construction materials, medicines and medical equipment, cosmetics and garments. There would also be handicrafts, leather wares, farming equipment, rattan and furniture, electronic products and kitchen items, the Indian mission here said. Relations between India and Myanmar have been growing in recent years, particularly in trade and economy. According to official statistics, bilateral trade between the two countries totalled 440.13 million dollars in 2002. India was Myanmar's fourth largest trading partner after Thailand, China and Singapore. India has also become Myanmar's second largest export market after Thailand, absorbing 25 percent of its exports. New Delhi plans to increase its bilateral trade with Myanmar to one billion dollars by 2007.
