New Delhi: Indian entities have strong intentions of increasing their IT spending in 2011 as compared to their peers in China and many other nations in the Asia Pacific region, according to global research group Gartner.

With Indian economy seeing good growth, spending on IT is expected to increase in the coming years, Gartner's Research Analyst Yanna Dharmasthira said.

"Among the Asia-Pacific nations, the outlook for IT spending in India is very positive. Software spending is the main priority," Dharmasthira told PTI from Jakarta.

Software spending includes new licences as well as software maintenance and support.

Going by estimates, overall IT spending in India is expected to be over $70 billion in 2011.

A Gartner report based on a survey showed that as many as 64 per cent of the respondents in India have intentions to increase their IT budget, the highest in the Asia Pacific region. In China, the same was at 49 per cent.

The survey covered more than 1,500 executives of various organisation spread across 40 countries.

"... the positive intentions of respondents to spend on IT indicate encouraging investment sentiment in 2011," the report said.

In the Asia Pacific region, many entities plan to raise their investments on security software this year, amid rising privacy and online security concerns.
