Indian economy being driven by Innovation: World Bank

NEW DELHI:The World Bank has acknowledged India’s technical prowess and said that technical developments are forcing the Government to face the citizens in terms of delivering services. World Bank VP and Treasurer Graeme Wheeler said “Today's technology is transforming the government's capacity from a decision maker towards the enabler and areas like e-commerce and treasury management are most important while this transformation is taking place”. Wheeler said the overall e-governance phenomenon in the country was good and said such initiatives will go a long way in reducing the cost of the government transaction and also improve the quality. "E-governance is all about empowering people to have greater power and control," he added. World Bank country director, Michael Carter said India has inspired many innovation, which is driving the country's economy. "The challenge for India is to utilize its IT prowess and innovation skills towards reducing the poverty levels in the country. It is a challenge and an opportunity at the same time," he said.
