Indian Scientists to team up with Gates Foundation
New Delhi: Bill and Melinda Gates who are touring India promoting philanthropy with Warren Buffett are also trying to pull in Indian Scientists, technical and research institutes to partner with their foundation in developing cheaper drugs to eradicate infectious diseases. Gates addressing media said that they are focusing more on infectious diseases like TB, malaria and AIDS where there is almost no research funding coming out from the for-profit companies. Gates said that he uses the same skills for philanthropic work which he used to build Microsoft. He said that running a foundation is similar to running a software innovation company. He also said that India is the heart for Innovations and it had made great strides in reducing TB to 300,000 cases a year, where it was once 500,000. For eradicating the TB disease, Gates said low cost vaccine has to be introduced with cheaper diagnostic tests. This is would be the aim of Indian scientists collaborating with the Gates Foundation.
