Bangalore: The domestic PC market has recorded a year-on-year growth by 24 percent in the third quarter of 2006. Substantiated by the IDC report, there has been a growth of 1.4 million PC shipment in comparison to last year's quarter. This has happened mainly thanks to the rapid growth of the SMB (small and midsize businesses) and higher education segments. In the overall market comprising both the notebooks and the desktops, HP retained the top slot with 21 percent market share, followed by HCL at 12 percent and Lenovo at 9 percent in terms of unit shipments. The growth momentum was kept going because of various factors such as Intel's price reduction of its chips which made a positive impact on the SMB circuit.
