Ahmedabad: "IT market in India is underdeveloped and underpenetrated, we should undertake new kind of works that the technology has made it possible today," says Kiran Karnik, a member of Prime Minister's Scientific Advisory Council. Karnik also pinpoints that the firms should penetrate more into technology enabled innovations like rural BPOs. "I know someone who is controlling a chemical plant in Singapore by sitting right there in Mumbai. It does not matters if the plant is 100 miles or 5,000 miles away. This is the kind of technology penetration that makes anything possible," he said. Commenting on the impact of U.S. President elect Barrack Obama's stance on key issues pertaining to Information & Technology (IT) vis-a-vis its impact on India, the PM's scientific advisor considers that if the country proves to be a profitable field for such investments then they have to resort to the Indian land. Moreover, the U.S. government is also planning cost cutting measures for healthcare services. As they are analyzing outsourcing of back office work such as insurance, billing and maintaining patient records, this too can prove beneficial for Indian firms if technology is put to the best use.
