Indian IT event generates Rs 2.25 B business

NEW DELHI: A major IT networking event held here has generated 2.25 billion worth of business, according to the organisers. The INDIASOFT 2003 IT exhibitions and International Conferences (Feb 20-22) produced business enquires worth 2.25 billion ($45 million), higher than the response of the previous year, said D.K. Sareen, executive director of the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council. During the three-day event, the Council reported that Indian and foreign participants received 650 enquiries and 11 business memorandum of understanding (MOUs) were signed, he said Monday. "We have been informed that more MOUs are in the pipeline. Importantly, 28 business tie-ups had taken place during the event," said Sareen, The overseas business associates who have signed MOUs during INDIASOFT 2003 are from countries like Ethiopia, the U.S., Ghana, El Salvador, Uganda, Cuba and Brazil. "The Punjab Government has also signed an MOU with ESC for cooperation in IT development in the state," said Sareen. Products and solutions that have generated business enquiries included IT education and training, language technologies, IT solutions, health care/hospital management, supply chain management and mobile computing. Over 3,000 people including software experts, businessmen and professionals visited the exhibition and concurrent conference.
