In a true to life Cinderella story, an Indian student will get to work for Microsoft along side industry stalwart Bill Gates. Having this dream come true is Abhishek Kumarasubramaniam from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. Kumarasubramanium won the Microsoft Code4Bill contest announced by Bill Gates during his last visit to India. Initiated to give due recognition to the country’s development and statute in the field of technology, Code4Bill was aimed at pre final and final year students from al the technical streams across India. As a reward, Kumarasubramanium will be given a unique opportunity to work with the Microsoft team. Comprising of the world’s best technologist who formulate and drive Microsoft’s strategy. The IITian will be working with Gates and his technical assistant’s team in Redmond on a one-year internship. Catching up on the victory, Kumarasubramaniam was in an ecstatic mood. “Today technology touches the lives of billions of people around the world and it’s amazing to think that I would be working with Microsoft, where I will have an opportunity to impact each of these lives,” he said With over 20,000 students participating in the competition being handled by Microsoft India, it included three online technical challenges, and two rounds of one-to-one interviews, which lasted seven months. The final 19 candidates of this competition were given an opportunity to intern with Microsoft India for a period of two months. They came from various parts of the country’s most premier technical institutes including IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, Netaji Subash Institute of Technology, New Delhi, et al. during their internship they worked on next generation technologies to address current day challenges.
