NEW DELHI: Leaving no stone unturned to tap the reconstruction opportunity in Iraq, a delegation of Indian CEOs will visit Jordan on June 5 to showcase their expertise. Led by H. S. Mejie, chairman of India-Iraq Joint Business Council, the delegation under the umbrella of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) will be participating in a conference on 'Doing Business with Iraq' being held in Amman on June 5, according to a statement issued here Saturday. The conference has been organised due to the personal efforts of King Abdullah of Jordan and is coordinated by the Jordanian ministry of industry and trade, along with OHRA, the U.S. body in charge of Iraq reconstruction and rehabilitation, Iraqi representatives, United Nations' representatives in charge of aid to Iraq and NGOs. Ranging from state-owned infrastructure consultants IRCON, the delegation will include representatives from SPIC, Som Datt Builders, ESSAR Construction, PCP International, Mohan Exports, Kotsons, Web Overseas, L T Overseas, Associate Lumbers, Indo-Asian Fusegear, Collage Impex, SPAN Consultants, NSIL Exports, B.B. Overseas, Priyanka Overseas and Planetum Intertrade. FICCI's earlier efforts had been, subsequent to war in Iraq, to ensure that the pending orders under 'Oil for Food' Programme were taken on board as part of the reconstruction efforts. The leading chamber lobby has also taken delegations to Kuwait and Iraq as part of efforts to bag contracts in the reconstruction efforts. "The assessment of the experts is that at the present juncture, Jordan offers a better location for doing business with Iraq and this will be evaluated during the forthcoming trip to Amman," said FICCI. Other industry lobbies from India have been mounting separate efforts to Kuwait and the U.S. to scout for sub-contracts in Iraq with several multinationals having been awarded millions of dollar worth contracts.
