Indian Americans missing on Forbes rich list

While India was thrown into the spotlight after housing most number of billionaires in Asia that had Mittal and Ambani fight for the top, no Indian American made it to the top 100 in Forbes' rankings of the world's richest people. India became home to the most billionaires in Asia, pushing Japan back to the No. 2 spot.The Forbes list noted that India added 14 new billionaires since last year to bring its total on the list to 36 with a combined wealth of $191 billion. Among the top 100 is steel-magnate Laksmi Mittal at number five with assets worth $32 billion. Brothers Mukesh and Anil Ambani, who split up their family's conglomerate in 2005, were at the fourteenth and eighteenth position with wealth $20 billion and $18 billion respectively. Wipro head Azim Premji at 21st position with $17.1 billion. The list included DLF's businessman Kushal Pal Singh from, who held the 62nd position with total wealth of $10 billion; Bharti Airtel's Sunil Mittal, at the 69th position with $9.5 billion; in the 86th position with diversified assets at $8 billion are brothers Shashi and Ravi Ruja. But even in such a prosperous year, 44 people dropped off the list for various reasons, said the Forbes magazine. Microsoft founder Bill Gates ranked No. 1 while fellow philanthropist Warren Buffet, Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway stood second. Globally, the number of billionaires reached a record 946, Forbes said and their combined wealth grew 35 percent to $3.5 trillion. The average billionaire is 62 years old, two years younger than in 2005. This year's new billionaires are seven years younger than that. Of list members' fortunes, 60 percent made theirs from scratch.
