NEW YORK: Indian American Ahnal Purohit is among six women entrepreneurs and corporate leaders to be honoured by Asian Women in Business (AWIB). Purohit, the president and chief executive of Donahue Purohit Miller Inc., will be awarded at the 2003 AWIB Leadership Awards Dinner in New York on October 20. "AWIB will recognise the outstanding contributions to the small business and corporate world by Asian women at the event," a press release by AWIB said. Purohit is to be presented the 2003 AWIB Entrepreneurial Leadership Award along with Shirley Lam, president of Connetquot West, Inc.; Jay Lee, chief executive and president of By Design LLC; and Taryn Rose, chief executive of Taryn Rose International. Two others -- Jeannie Park, executive editor, People Magazine, Time Inc.; and Sheryl WuDunn, anchor, author and Pulitzer Prize winning journalist with The New York Times -- are to be presented the 2003 AWIB Corporate Leadership Award. Headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, with an office in Morristown, New Jersey, Donahue Purohit Miller is a healthcare marketing and communications company with $77 million in revenues during 2002, the AWIB press release said. Purohit came to the U.S. in 1967 and received a PhD in psychometrics at the University of Delaware and spent seven years as a professor at the University of Illinois, College of Pharmacy, teaching statistics and research methodology. In 1982, she moved to healthcare marketing and founded a one-desk, two-person company in 1985, which eventually became Donahue Purohit Miller. "After 18 years in business, and always focused, the company grew incrementally and is one of a small handful of independent agencies in the healthcare field," AWIB said.
