"We are already the fastest growing democracy," the prime minister said at a dinner here to celebrate two years of the second United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
"If each one of us continues to work hard with dedication, commitment and honesty, I am sure India will soon emerge as the fastest growing economy."
He said in the past seven years when the UPA has been in power, the country had grown at an unprecedented 8.5 percent annually despite grave global financial crises and slowdown.
"It has also been achieved overcoming the problem of high energy prices and rising food costs," he said, calling for rational fuel pricing and enhanced food production.
He also said India had a long road to traverse to banish poverty and provide gainful employment to all as part of the overall focus on inclusive growth.

Dear PM
I hope so please think of our countrys farmers and all others as such
Dear PM please come up with policies that will revitalise our public sector like BAARC and will attract the best poeple and will do cutting edge research in Nuclear Tech
Dear PM ,,by this time your govt and plannig comission would have realised that ,,energy is the key to india whether it is electricity or fuel inside a fertiliser plant ,,a home ,,or a vehicle
We also know that Nuclear power is not safe ,,but it the only way so far to create massive energy in a clean way ,,but challenges remain ,,what radio active material to use and safety factors
I feel we Indians are capable ,,if we combine ISROs missions to find new material sources and our own ingenuity in science ,,we can devise a safe way to produce Nuclear power and at the same time probably will become one of the pioneers in this field
Dear PM ,,French can be our partners in this mission ,,we are not alone ,,we can collobarate too if required with them ,,as they are already into some kind of maturity
Dear PM sir ,,please revitalise DRDO to produce more tech that can benefit the masses
thank you
