BANGALORE: TeNet, a consortium of IIT Madras and other entrepreneurs will launch a Net PC, a basic computer using processor that is used in Mobile phones. Dr Ashok Jhunjhunwala, who heads the Telecommunications and Computer Networks group (TeNeT) said the Novatium NetPC would be out in two months "The price of a mobile's CPU is only $25-30, so the cost is much lesser," Dr Jhunjhunwala said. The consortium is targeting cyber cafés and small enterprises. The computer will be available without a monitor. Based on thin client, the network PC will be connected to a server and will work on all operating systems like Windows, Solaris, Linux and Unix. "We recently migrated all our systems to the network PC. We are able to work in the same way as we were with desktops," he said. Dr Jhunjhunwala however declined to reveal more information, preferring to wait until the launch.
