MUMBAI: During the July-September quarter, India server revenues grew by 37.4 percent compared with the same quarter in 2004, according to research firm Gartner. India accounted for 8.4 percent of the total server revenues from the Asia-Pacific region, as against 6.6 percent during the corresponding year-ago period. Asic-Pacific server revenues in the third quarter grew 8.3 percent and unit shipments grew 22 percent compared with the same quarter last year. The driving force was the strong growth in the x86 server space, which contributed over 24 percent of yearly growth in vendor revenue in Asia-Pacific. According to the gartner’s report, it has been a good quarter for India as shipments and revenues both grew above 30 percent on year-on-year (YoY) basis, though in line with the seasonality trend, Indian server market has reported sequential decline in overall shipments and revenue. Intel-based servers are gaining popularity in the huge untapped SMB segment, though they contribute less in terms of revenue. Pricing pressure continues to be across the platforms. Gartner India’s Senior Analyst, Enterprise Systems Research, Naveen Mishra said, “Indian server market has reported strong growth during July-September 2005 as compared to last year primarily driven by significant momentum in RISC processor-based servers though x-86 servers have also contributed towards it.”
