NEW DELHI:India is serious on the India-Iran gas pipeline despite U.S. concerns, a senior government official has said. Petroleum Secretary S.C. Tripathi said India would go ahead with the $ 4 billion gas pipeline via Pakistan, no matter what measures U.S. takes to stall the project. India has initiated measures with Iran, Burma and Turkmenistan to tap the cheaper source of fuel for its growing economy already faced with rising fuel demand for which India is spending huge amounts of money by importing fuel from all possible sources. "I think that there are a number of companies working in Iran, including a large number of European companies," Tripathi said. U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice last week expressed U.S. concern over the India-Iran deal.
