India ranks fourth among top ten internet users
Bangalore: The increasing dependence on the web makes India stand fourth with the country being home for 81 million netizens. The total number of internet users in the world is 134,85,72,040 by the end of 2007 and Asia is the hub of around 568.7 million users. The U.S. tops the chart with 220 million netizens while China and Japan followed with 210 million and 88.1 million users, respectively. Following India, Brazil stands at the fifth rank with 53.1 million users. As per the statistics revealed by the Internet Governance Forum, UK stands as sixth highest internet usage center with 40.2 million people being accessible to the internet, followed by Germany with 39.1 million users, Republic of Korea with 35.5 million users, Italy with 32 million users and France with 31.5 million users. However, in terms of broadband connection India finds no place among the top ten nations, where too U.S. stands first with 73.2 million connections. The other nations who had made a mark in the broadband chart are China with 66.4 million connections, followed by Japan (28.28 million), Germany (19.6 million), UK (15.6 million), France (15.5 million), Republic of Korea (14. 7 million), Italy (10.8 million), Canada (nine million) and Spain (eight million).
