WASHINGTON: India has progressed much faster despite facing development challenges, World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz said today. Recalling his earlier meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Finance Minister P Chidambaram he said he discussed on how could India improve upon its success, especially to reach the poorest people in India. “India has many poor people, especially in rural areas, so the Bank-lending focuses on rural development, for example roads and water supply,” Wolfowitz said. He said it takes huge amounts of investment to take care of the poor which includes subsidizing food, medical and health besides creating infrastructure to connect rural areas with the cities.
