BALI: An Indian institute Tuesday signed an agreement with a university and institute in Indonesia to promote international IT education and research activities in this country. The memorandum of understanding was signed by the University of Padjadjaran of Bandung and Yayasan Hassaram Indonesia, a private body, with 12IT Private Limited (12ITPLS) of Pune, Maharashtra, to mark Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's visit here. "This is a very important agreement and we are happy we facilitated this," said Amit Mitra, secretary general of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). Mitra said students selected in Indonesia would travel to Pune for three kinds of courses related to "very advanced software" courses and, later, courses might be offered in Indonesia itself. Prime Minister Vajpayee made a passing reference to the agreement in his speech to a business summit held on the sidelines of the ninth ASEAN summit. The areas of cooperation identified in the agreement include programmes or activities "desirable and feasible to further academic interaction". The pact would be valid for three years.
