NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said Saturday that the government would "create conducive environment" to attract large-scale foreign direct investment (FDI) into the country. "There is no change in our attitude to FDI," Manmohan Singh told a press conference here, adding the country needs massive FDI to put the economy on a higher trajectory of growth. "It will be our endeavour to create conducive environment to attract massive inflows of FDI." On privatisation of public sector enterprises, the prime minister said the government would not divest profit-making companies if there was "no earth shaking necessity" to privatise them. He said the government would not privatise state-run units "to the point that their character changes from public sector to private sector".
