India mobile base at 85 M

NEW DELHI: India's mobile subscriber base including GSM and CDMA touched 85 million with GSM subscribers rising to 65 million and CDMA growing to 19 million. GSM based cellular subscriber base saw an addition of over 3.2 million new users in February. As of end-February, Bharti's total mobile subscriber base stood at 18.45 million capturing a market share of 28.31 percent, the highest among the GSM players. Bharti added over 1.08 million subscribers in the month. State funded BSNL followed with the addition of 0.69 million new users taking its subscribers to 16.1 million giving it a market share of 24.64 percent, according to the latest figures by COAI. Hutch came third with the addition of 0.79 million along with a market share of 22.30 percent. Its total subscriber base is at 14.5 million. Idea Cellular added 0.27 million subscribers in February t king its total subscriber base to seven million. Aircel added 0.08 million new users and its total user base stood at 2.5 million. Reliance Telecom added 0.07 million new subscribers and is total user base is at 1.8 million followed by Spice Telecom 1.8 million), MTNL (1.7million) and BPL (1.34 million). According to Cellular Operators Association of India, the GSM mobile industry accounts for 7 percent of the new additions in February and 77 percent of total mobile market.
