India may be included in G-7

WASHINGTON: The United States has called for expansion of the Group of Seven, a club of world's wealthiest nations, to include India. U.S. Treasury under-secretary for international affairs Tim Adams called for expansion of the exclusive club to include China, Brazil or India in recognition of their economic clout, ahead of the meeting of G7 finance ministers and also includes the International Association of Financial Institutions. "I believe we ought to put some of these countries on a glide-path to being full-time participants in the G7," Adams said. "Whether we would call it the 'G-something' else remains to be seen. Obviously we'll have to do this in a measured fashion," he said. "But I do think that we need an institution, the G7, that reflects a change in the world economy, to make sure that these critical players are at the table as we address these very important topics." The G7 comprises the United States, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and Canada.
