India makes presence felt at Gitex 2003

DUBAI: Indian Information Technology leaders from both the software and hardware industry have made a strong presence at Gitex 2003, a premier weeklong IT exhibition in the region beginning here from Saturday. More than 1,600 companies from 37 countries are participating in the exhibition which also serves as the launch pad for new technologies and products in the region. Many small and medium companies from India are attending Gitex 2003 under the auspices of ESE, Government of India. Among the Indian state Andhra Pradesh has come to Gitex in a big way to attract exhibitors to participate in Gitex Hyderabad, scheduled to take place at the Hitex International Exhibition Centre between January 12th and 14th, 2004. "India's core strengths in end to end business solutions, wireless products, mobile services, financial services etc will be presented by IT majors like Wipro, Adcom computers, Consign Technology and other companies," Kamal Vachani, regional director, Electronics and Computer Software Exports Council, Dubai said. ESC aims to foster closer ties between the Middle East and the Indian IT players and is taking initiatives to assist member exporters to diversify IT export in global markets. Demand from Latin America, Africa and Middle East for Indian software and support services will grow by 40 per cent in the current financial year ending March 2004 to $1.16 billion and exports are projected to grow to $57 billion by 2008, according to data released by National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom). Vachani said the council had stepped up promotional activities in certain identified regions and will continue to step up the momentum to explore newer markets for maintaining the high growth in the IT sector. He said there has been a phenominal rise in IT exports from India to the Middle East with UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman leading in the list of top markets for software solutions. Other Indian software companies attending the show under the ESC banner include ABM Knowledgeware Ltd, Burgundy Infotech, Cherrysoft Technologies Ltd, Consign Technologies.
