India launches Hindi software

NEW DELHI: Bringing native language software closer to reality, the Government today launched a chip version of Hindi translation software on mobile phones and the Internet. The software called MANTRA (Machine assisted Translation Tool) software will help translate documents from English to Hindi, and another software called LILA (Learn Indian Languages through Artificial Intelligence) software will help non Hindi speakers learn Hindi on the Internet and mobile handsets. The LILA series, which is already available on the web for learning Hindi via media of English, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu, would now be available in Bengali, department officials said. The software, currently available in the form of multimedia card on cellular phones will make learning Hindi more high-tech and easy. The MANTRA-Rajbhasha software, designed to facilitate the translation of documents and for use in the agriculture, health and administrative sectors is aimed at an interactive graphic user interface and has online thesaurus, dictionary, format retention facility and other tools.
