New Delhi: India not only accounts for three out of five top established global destinations for outsourcing but also has the most number of emerging cities in the area, says a study released Monday. According to a study by CyberMedia's Global Services magazine, the top five established hubs for outsourcing, servicing global corporate world for over a decade, comprise Bangalore, India's National Capital Territory, Manila, Mumbai and Dublin. Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune are the top three emerging hubs. While Kolkata is at the fifth position, Chandigarh enjoys ninth rank in the list, says the study conducted in association with Tholons, an investment advisory firm. "Global Services sees the top 50 emerging cities grabbing a much bigger chunk of the global information technology and business process outsourcing (BPO) service pie in the next three years," says Pradeep Gupta, publisher of CyberMedia. "With the demand-supply gap widening, newer tier II cities will play a critical role in re-engineered globalisation models," added Avinash Vashistha, chairman and chief executive of Tholons. In terms of established hubs, China comes next with three hot cities - Shanghai at eighth position, Beijing at tenth and Shenzhen at thirteenth. The country also has five emerging destinations. Commenting on individual cities, the study says Chennai is an established hub for automotive engineering services, product development and healthcare, home to companies like Accenture, Cognizant, EDS, IBM, Oracle and Sun Microsystems. Hyderabad, referred to as Cyberabad, has a government that is planning to create 250,000 new IT jobs in the next two years. Some players there include Accenture, CSC, HCL, HP, Infosys, Oracle, Satyam and UBS. Pune, called "Oxford of the East", is home to many education institutions that make it attractive for companies like Cognizant, KPIT, EXL, Msource, Aviva, Kanbay and Zensar. The city also has comparatively lower operating costs. Kolkata is on the list for its sound educational infrastructure, lower costs and even lower attrition rates. The IT industry there is growing at 70 percent per annum and has players like Cap Gemini, Cognizant, Genpact, HSBC, IBM and Oracle. Finally, among emerging Indian cities, Chandigarh is home to players like Dell, Quark, Net Solutions and Netsoft Global Solutions. The city is "doing all the right things to establish itself" in the IT and outsourcing business. "Exceptional telecom, power and road infrastructure and the all-new Chandigarh Technology Park offer planned facilities," the survey noted.
