NEW DELHI: India is aiming at the rapid rollout of affordable Internet and broadband services to ensure more jobs in knowledge industries, Information and Technology Minister Dayanidhi Maran said. "While Indian call centers are flourishing, a majority of future work will involve high-end analytical processes such as banking and marketing applications," Maran said after meeting executives from British telecom. "Data services will grow exponentially. Broadband will add to greater productivity at work," he said. In 2005, there were six million Internet subscribers and three million broadband users. "China and Korea are the only countries that match our volume-based broadband offerings for corporates. We are much, much cheaper than broadband service providers in Europe and the United States," he added.
