NEW DELHI: The Indian government Thursday approved a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with Iran on cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector, including exploration, petrochemicals and marketing of gas. "The MoU was signed during the visit of Iranian President Mohammad Khatami in January last year," Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said here after a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The pact establishes a general framework for cooperation in areas of mutual interest in the oil and gas sectors through the setting up of a joint working group that will follow up and monitor progress in identified areas.
