BANGALORE: India has emerged as a hotspot for Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) activities, reveals a study by an independent research company Asset Management, in alliance with Kelly services. The study discloses that India would escalate in the KPO segment at 45 percent in contrast to the 25 percent in the BPO sector. Achal Khanna, General Manager, Kelly Services India said, “India still maintains the competitive advantage for providing the combination of the most cost effective and high quality manpower. This is India’s strength in off-shoring business.” What works to India’s benefit are its competitive salaries (<40 percent), proficiency in English (70-plus million people) and the large and competent pool of quality professionals (three million graduates every year), she said. India is likely to accomplish a high growth rate in all technically sophisticated segments of the KPO industry with data and market research along with R&D in medical/pharma sectors constituting 50 percent of the KPO business in the country. The KPO white paper 2006 says the outsourcing business, which was on track with BPO, is now propelling the outsourcing of knowledge process work also. Needless to say, BPOs would continue to remain the lead revenue source in the country and job creator due to the volume nature of this industry. KPO recruiting is a complex process that involves domain knowledge, intelligence, analytical and data-mining skills, decision-making abilities, conceptualizing skills, verbal and written communication skills in contrast to the BPO sector wherein the recruiting process is relatively simpler.
