India approves investment offers worth Rs 932.6 M

NEW DELHI: The Indian government Wednesday approved 21 foreign direct investment proposals worth 932.6 million, covering a wide spectrum of industries like communication products, software development and stock broking. The government cleared Singapore-based Thomson Multimedia Asia's proposal to increase its stake in Thomson Multimedia India Private Ltd. from 86 percent to 89.11 percent with fresh investment of 200 million. Mauritius-based Strategic Investment's offer to invest 6.4 million in Bangalore's Encore Systems Private Ltd. to transfer shares from resident to non-resident Indians too was approved. The government also cleared the U.S.-based Global Asia Partner's proposal to pump in an additional 2.3 million in Vadodara-based Ambalal Sarabhari Enterprises Ltd. for transfer of shares from resident to non-resident. Among other major investment proposals cleared were Deutsche Asia Pacific Holdings' offer to invest 240 million to set up a company with 74 percent foreign equity participation for stock broking activity.
