NEW DELHI: India has approved 15 proposals for foreign technology collaborations and franchise agreements including that of Tata Motors for design and development of Euro IV compliant engines for passenger cars. In addition to the 15 proposals of foreign technology collaboration/franchise agreements approved by Commerce and Industry Minister Arun Jaitley, nine proposals for grant of industrial licence based on the recommendations of the licensing committee were given a go-ahead, an official statement said Wednesday. The approved proposals include a technical collaboration agreement of Tata Motors Ltd. with AVL List GmbH of Austria and Delphi Diesel Systems SAS of France for design and development of Euro IV compliant engine with European EOBD emission norms for passenger cars. The engine developed under this agreement will help Tata Motors improve their exports, especially to the European markets in which Euro-IV emission norms will come into force from January 1, 2005, the statement said. The proposal for the technology agreement of Finolex Industries Ltd. with US-based Oxy Vinyls, LP, and the Netherlands-based Aker Kvaerner for manufacture of vinyl chloride monomer was also approved. The improved technology sought by Finolex Industries uses less energy, reduces emissions and improves the conversion rate of feed stock. Also included in the approved list was the Spicer India Ltd. proposal for extension of their technical agreement with US-based Dana Corporation for manufacture of driveshafts for super heavy vehicles and maintenance free driveshafts. The nine proposals for grant of industrial license and amendments in existing ones pertained to areas like textiles, explosives, petroleum and material handling equipments, the commerce ministry stated.
