India adds 5.72 Mn GSM users in December

New Delhi: According to a report by Cellular Operators Association of India, GSM based mobile services added 5.7 million users in December 2007, resulting in a total mobile subscriber base to 171.88 million users. The GSM service providers had added 5.8 million new subscribers in November. At the top position in the roster was Bharti Airtel with a market share of 32.09 percent and a total user base of 55.16 million. The company added 2.2 million users in December as against 2.05 million in November. Vodafone-Essar added 1.3 million new users, capturing a market share of 23.19 percent. At the end of December, the company had a total subscriber base of 39.86 million. BSNL, the state run telecom major, meanwhile added 7.67 lakh users in December as against 9.12 lakh users in November. With a total subscriber base of 32.71 million the company now has a market share of 19.03 percent. MTNL added 65,154 users in December and now has a total user base of 2.95 million. Idea Cellular, promoted by the Aditya Birla Group, added 8.31 lakh in the same period and now has a total subscriber base of 21.05 million.
