BANGALORE: Russian President Vladimir Putin, on a visit to the Infosys campus here Sunday, said that India and Russia should work together on innovative new technologies, with the younger generation taking the lead. Addressing a gathering of young campus members during his hour-long visit to Infosys Technologies, Putin said: "India and Russia should work together on innovative new technologies. The younger generation should take the lead." On reaching the corporate headquarters of Infosys, India's leading IT bellwether, along with a high-profile business delegation, Putin was received by Infosys chairman and chief mentor N.R. Narayana Murthy and senior company officials. Though Putin was behind schedule by 40 minutes and was slated to spend half-an-hour at Infosys, he extended his stay by another 30 minutes. "He came, he saw and left much impressed after spending an hour with us," an Infosys official told IANS. Before Putin was taken around the sprawling green campus, Infosys CEO Nandan M. Nilekani made a power point presentation, providing an overview of the Indian IT industry and the company's global delivery model. During the campus tour, Putin visited the company's Global Management Centre, which offers world-class facilities for infrastructure management to its global clients. Welcoming the Russian president, Murthy said Putin's visit to India was an affirmation of the special relationship between the two countries. "India and Russia share several common values and have successfully leveraged each other's strengths across various industry sectors. "There are, however, avenues that remain unexplored. In order to progress further, we must focus on greater co-operation between the two nations. "As our bilateral relations expand in scope and depth, IT will be one of the areas in which both the countries can collaborate for talent and knowledge," Murthy said, according to an Infosys statement, issued after Putin left the campus.
