India IT lobby group inks pact with Taiwan

MUMBAI: The National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom), India's premier IT lobby group, Thursday entered into an agreement with Taiwan's technology sector body for cooperation in software and services segment. As part of the agreement, Nasscom and the Institute of Information Industry (III) of Taiwan will explore ways to increase trade and enhance cooperation in the IT software and services sector. Nasscom plans to establish a joint council for cooperation by 2005, which would comprise of representatives from not only the IT industry but also institutes, organisations and academic community related to technology sector. The agreement will also help IT sectors in India and Taiwan to jointly market software and services to other countries like China, Japan and other Asian markets. "The cooperation will focus on sectors where mutually beneficial results can be achieved, particularly in the area of embedded software and manufacturing," said Kiran Karnik, president of Nasscom. "And also encourage technology collaboration and talent exchange in the domain of chip designing and product development," he added. India and Taiwan will also jointly explore "mutually advantageous opportunities" in sectors such as securities, telecom, energy and utilities for systems integration. "Taiwan's public and private sector have been aware of the opportunities in Indian ICT sector," said G.J. Huang, executive vice president of Taiwan's Institute of Information Industry. "Our ICT companies are keen to cooperate with the Indian partners to explore business opportunities around the world. "With the well established infrastructure and competitive advantages of both sides, we are confident that our collaboration will soon bear fruits."
