New Delhi: India and Germany have agreed to step up their development cooperation in the fields of energy, environment and climate protection and social security. Officials from Germany's Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and India's Finance Ministry met in Bonn to agree to a new commitment of 500 million euros for development cooperation in these sectors for the financial year 2010-11. This year's Indo-German negotiations focused on projects that work towards protecting the climate and the environment by using renewable energy and by improving the efficiency of energy generation and consumption, a German embassy statement said here. Also in focus were projects that provide advice on adapting to climate change in north-eastern India and projects to promote environment-related urban infrastructure measures. Germany is lending its support to a new programme in India for small and medium-sized enterprises, who develop and adapt clean technologies.
