'India, China should enhance cooperation in plastic industry'

New Delhi: India and China should share their experiences to develop a sustainable growth strategy for the plastic industry, Minister of State for Chemicals, Fertilisers and Mines B.K. Handique said here Tuesday. Speaking at India-China Plastics Industry Summit-2009, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Plastindia Foundation, Handique said: "There is large potential for India and China to share their experiences in developing a globally sustainable growth in manufacturing plastics". The two countries should also cooperate in trading and transfer of technology, he added. With the Indian Plastics per capita consumption set to double by 2012, the minister said the industry needed an "action-oriented agenda". Liao Zhengpin, president and secretary general of China Plastics Processing Industry Association, emphasised the need to develope a common strategy for the industry in the backdrop of the global meltdown. "Joint efforts will not only further the industry interests and the country interests, but contribute to worldwide growth of the sector," he said. The Summit also highlighted the importance of advanced technology for achieving high productivity, low-cost manufacturing and high quality standards.
