New Delhi: Imation India, developer and manufacturer of removable data storage media, has announced the receipt of LTO (Linear Tape-Open) Ultrium 4 certification from Measurement Analysis Corporation (MAC). MAC is an independent testing board for compliance verification testing and the LTO Consortium. As a result of this certification, Imation is the first to begin shipping the new product worldwide to meet customer demand. LTO technology is a powerful, scalable, adaptable open tape format developed and continuously enhanced by technology providers like HP, IBM Corporation, Quantum Corporation and some others to help address the growing demands of data protection in the midrange to enterprise-class server environments. This ultra-high capacity generation of tape storage products is designed to deliver outstanding performance, capacity and reliability combining the advantages of linear multi-channel, bi-directional formats with enhancements in servo technology, data compression, track layout and error correction. LTO 4 features 1.6 terabytes compressed capacity and transfer speeds of up to 240 megabytes per second. For additional protection, the generation 4 format will allow LTO tape drive hardware-based writing of encrypted data to the tape cartridge. A manufacturer of LTO generations 1, 2 and 3, Imation now manufactures the generation 4 media at its Tera Angstrom (TM) coating facility in Weatherford, Okla.
