IT firms welcome employee innovation
Bangalore: As retaining employees' confidence turns to be a tough task for IT companies during financial crisis and layoffs, most of the companies are now focusing on encouraging employee innovation and ideation, which they believe would motivate the employees' confidence and potential. IT majors such as Infosys, Adobe, NIIT and Hewlett-Packard (HP) are on the move to adopt such strategies in which employee gets the prime concern. "We involve our employees in all the solutions we are designing and implementing to handle the current market scenario. When you can influence the context, your ownership is far higher, impacting your motivation levels positively," said Vijay Bharadwaj, VP - Human Resources, Dell International Services. The company continues to bring out employee development and welfare activities and offers great opportunities for them to learn and grow and build their careers. Another IT major Cisco also gives high priority in considering employees' voice and supporting them to come up with ideas. The company encourages a startup culture where employees are encouraged to take ownership and be entrepreneurial; they are given the opportunities to develop professionally and grow personally. As a result Cisco could make a continuous sense of excitement and feeling of ownership among the employees in the work they do. Moreover, timely exchange of information can play a big role in the overall development of the organization. "There should be a healthy communication process in between an organization and its employees. Even if it is a cost cutting matter, the company should involve them in the discussion and consider their views on all the process about the organization," said Narayan Thammaiah, Senior Manager Human Resources, Rambus India.
