IT cos turn tough on notice periods for employees

New Delhi: A large number of IT companies are becoming more strict with departing employees and are asking them to serve the full notice period to ensure that business activities are not affected by a sudden shortage of manpower.
IT companies, whose revenues primarily depend on projects from their clients with a time-bound delivery, face serious risks to their businesses if skilled staff make a sudden exit, HR experts said.

"Now with the revival in the job market, companies want to hold on to their employees with critical skills and so they may be becoming stricter with regard to serving of full notice periods," Ma Foi Randstad President (Staffing/Selection & Training) E Balaji said.
"The trend of asking employees to serve the full notice period is being followed by many IT services companies.

2: Notice period is very important for both i.e,
empoyee & employer. It safe guards both
during termination or resigning. Company
policy should be such that both of them
should follow it ,this should never be one
way.
If Employee is critical resource in the project and he resignes this will have major impact on the project & company hence employer will bound him with notice period. As some one mentioned companies do not care when they would want to terminate employee..
Serving notice period should be followed by both the side..

6: It is following by many IT cos. But
practically it will make a big impact on
leaving employee moral. Say if his notice
period is 30-45 days then in these period he
will invoke other employees as well....Also
do IT cos mgmt think that they can forcefully
get the work done in such manner?

employees.
