THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: India's space agency ISRO plans to set up 100 village centres across the country by the end of the current financial year to update people on developments in space and provide information on crucial subjects like weather. The Indian Space Research Organisation will initially set up three such centres, one in Tamil Nadu and two in Kerala, said ISRO Deputy Director V.S. Hegde at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre here Monday. "The first three centres in the country would be declared open by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in Tamil Nadu this month. There would be two centres in Kerala: in Palakkad and Wayanad," Hegde told reporters. "ISRO would provide all the technical backup and these centres could be either owned by the state government or by the NGOs. The centres would charge a nominal fee for giving information," he added.
