Bangalore: Android and iOS apps across the globe have seen a tremendous growth over the years and expected to rise with each passing day. By the end of 2012, it is estimated that the cumulative number of iOS and Android devices activated will surge past 1 billion which implies that the world has become ‘app’ crazy.

In a stark contrast to the taste of consumers “Android Market has reached a milestone, hitting the 500,000 submitted apps” according to mobile research firm Research2Guidance. “Android market is growing 3 times rate of Apple’s App Store” as reported by App Genome Project.

The android market is letting in any app submitted. On the other hand, iOS apps are subject to Apple’s strict approval process before they are allowed into the App Store which makes “The number of Android Market apps increased about 127 percent since end of 2010, while the number of apps in the Apple App Store grew at a rate of 44 percent during that period”

Considering the difference between Android developers and their iOS counterparts, Research2Guidance says, “Android developers are more prolific, with the average publisher releasing more than six apps to the Android Market. The average iOS developer has added around four apps to its respective store. But, just because an app goes live it doesn’t mean it’s around forever. For example, by September 2011, the removal rate of Android Apps was 37 percent and that of iOS was 24 percent, for various reasons.

The reasons to kill an App would vary from ‘not been updated to be compatible with the platform’s current operating system’ to the ‘developer abandoning himself’. Despite all the pitfalls, number of Apps developed will grow in tremendous rate in 2012.

To capture this growing trend and showcase among its network members, SiliconIndia is organizing Mobile World India 2012 to gear up the App developers by knitting around what goes in developing a high-quality Android & iPhone App.
