Kolkata: Disrupting the reputable aura of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), a student of IIT-Kharagpur (IIT-K), Priyankar Biswas was arrested on the grounds of possessing heroin. The institute claims it to be a rare phenomenon in the campus. The third year B.Tech student of the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering, Biswas was admitted in 1997 but was asked to leave for being unable to complete the course within eight years. Moreover, the trend of change in the syllabus every three to four years made it difficult for them to construct the right syllabus. "He was, however, allowed to complete his course after he came with a Calcutta High Court order in 2007," Damodar Acharya, Director IIT-K said. He remained aloof within the campus, though Acharya is of the opinion that the student had interaction mostly with the outsiders. Infact, even the faculties are not sure about his behaviour. After the incident, the authorities have decided to expel Biswas but as D K Tripathi, Dean (Students), IIT-K says, "But there are other procedural delays in the final decision. We are waiting for the final report of the police. We cannot take a decision without any evidence." Since after the arrest the police conducted a complete search but couldnot find anything.
