IIM grads opt domestic offers to international ones
Bangalore: Even though students across IIMs this year got good international offers, unlike last year, from firms in Europe, Singapore, Hong Kong, U.S and Australia, they have preferred to take domestic over international ones. Better career prospects in India, because of the booming economy, are the main reason.

For example, in IIM-Bangalore, 15 students accepted international offers, and same number of students turned down global placements. Talking to The Times of India, Sapna Agarwal, Head of Career Development Service, IIM-B said, "We don't have data on the number of students opting out of international ones. But this time maybe 15 students accepted domestic offers over international ones."

An IIM-B student, who didn't want to be named, was offered a consulting role in the UK, but he opted for a domestic offer from a general management company which is yet to declare his position. "India is a more happening place than anywhere else.

These IIM graduates believe that the future is India. "One always gets to travel abroad and work there. The learning there can be implemented here," said a student.

An IIT-Bombay student, Aditya, who got the offer from one of the leading I-banks where he would have been placed in NY, London, Hong Kong or Singapore, he preferred to stay in India looking at a long-term career in India. "I didn't want to settle abroad," said he.

14: Well to be honest guy's the reason why these guy's pick domestic over international oppurtunities is basically the saving after tax deduction is the same here when compared to international. Plus with the base starting salary of an IIM is 15 lac p.a, it is easy to survive in India then abroad.

Well we all know this trend of opting for India is been there for past 3 years and we all know for past 3 years there has been no great changes in the indian market. Where are those who opted for India. Well quite a few are abroad now.

So this is what Management teaches you all about.

Hi,

I agree with the article, In India we have offers, if we are talented and hard worker. tell me one reason why most of the people go to abroad for their post graduation, because they are not able to face the competition and they know that they will not get a seat in India. student who work hard and have talent will can get in the top institutes like IITs,IISc and IIM's. And I am happy they are not ready to leave India, when they have good offer from other countries. We want to serve the nation with our talent and skills. I think this is the start, and this has happened in my case,

my parents want me to go abroad and study. But i told in India, i will get a seat by a competitive exam, and i got it because i am a hard worker and a little talent . I am yet to complete my masters and planning for PHD.

62: I disagree with the suggestions - Serving the nation. It is more to do with the perceived insecurity of overseas appointments. Right now in India there are quite a few Indians who have returned on being given the 'pink slip' and are now twiddling their thumbs. Surely, a worrisome situation.
I would very much like to get a stat of the percentage on jobs on offer in excess of Rs15lacs annually in the campus.

It's right that the job security in our own country is quite more as compare to overseas .
And Pink Slips has been given to the people who have some default in their work or in their Degree's .
But i don't consider that people from such Reputed Institutes like IIM's will do such kind of work and have any kind of threat to their jobs .
I think , now Youth is preferring to took job in our country not because their jobs are not secure in foreign countries but the most important reason is that now we have all such facilities in our countries itself and youth is willing to stay in there own county ,want to participate in development of their own countries as they are also getting a good life style here also.
But now also, politics within the organizations is one of the major reasons for the Brain Drain .
But Salute to the people who are ready to work within such conditions while they are getting job offers from Overseas also and with great packages .
