Ahmadabad: Forecasting a dip in the number of job offers made by the companies, to tackle the crisis, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmadabad (IIM-A) focus on segments such as manufacturing, media and insurance for the final placement season in March instead of its popular sectors- finance and banking, reported The Economic times. "Slowdown will impact placements at IIM-A, and finance will not be as charming and dominant as it used to be in the past. Although being at the top of the B-School pyramid in the country, we expect to be the least impacted, we anticipate an impact in numbers and compensations packages offered," said Samir Barua, Director, IIM-A. He mentioned that pre-placement offers from the banks were already down to a trickle compared to the deluge of offers that the previous batches from the institute have seen. Till now, it was companies from finance sector dominated the hiring process by picking up more than 60 percent of students. "We have always invited various sectors to participate in the placement process. However, a large number of them were unable to recruit as a large number of students were lured away by the financial sector on the Day Zero and Day One of the placement season, leaving little for other sectors," added Barua. IIM-A is also concerned over its Management Development Programs (MDP) that generate good revenue for the institute, as companies are slashing their training budgets. "It is around this time that corporate decide on their training spends, and in the current scenario, this is likely to face the first cut," pointed out Barua. The institute is planning more innovative programs to counter the slowdown.
