THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: IBS Software Services, the Technopark-based software company, has become the second Kerala-based IT firm and the 19th in the country to be assessed against Level 5 of the Capability Maturity Model (CMM). According to V.K. Mathews, CEO of IBS, the assessment was planned and conducted under the expertise of the Lead Assessor from KPMG and an internal assessment team. "Quality of the human resources and business domain expertise were two of the areas which were highlighted as the key strengths of the organisation", he said. IBS Software Services is a software development and support services company with its global headquarters in India and sales and business development offices in Atlanta (U.S.), Zurich (Europe), Dubai (the Middle East) and Singapore (Asia-Pacific). IBS was for the second consecutive year the largest exporter of software from Kerala with a total turnover of 700 million and employs nearly 500 engineers. IBS has signed several new contracts this year. They include a contract for developing a new generation cargo handling system for Mercator, the IT company of the Emirates Airlines Group, at a cost of $4 million. Mercator awarded this strategically important project to IBS after conducting a detailed study and analysis of the solutions presented to it by various reputed international software companies. Prior to this IBS won a prestigious contract with the Department of Sea Ports and Customs, Sharjah, for implementing a complete port management solution, iPort(tm) for the ports managed by it. In March IBS entered into a $1.5 million contract for supply of transportation and logistics solution for Gulf Share, a consortium of oil companies operating in the Gulf of Mexico. This contract also was secured after beating stiff international competition. Mathews now aims to move ahead by leveraging the CMM model to optimise processes further and gain maximum advantage. The only other company in Kerala that has earned this certification is the NEST group of companies spearheaded by U.S.-based Kerala businessman Javed Hassan. His company also operates from Technopark.
