IBM tops Indian server market in 04

NEW DELHI: IBM has become the top seller in the overall server market in India, for the year 2004, the IDC's Asia/Pacific Quarterly Enterprise Server Tracker, Q4 2004 reported.
IBM's overall server revenues grew 16 percent in 2004 compared to 2003 that made it the market leader with 30.5 percent revenue share.
According to IDC, IBM continued to lead the x86 server market in India with 35.7 percent revenue share in 2004 compared to 2003. In the Linux server market in India, IBM was the leader with a 10.8 point lead over its nearest competitor in 2004. In the x86 Blade server market, IBM garnered 79.1 percent revenue share.
"IBM's ability to sustain its leadership position can be attributed largely to its strong focus on volume server market and key competitive win backs," said IDC Ltd computing products and channels research head Aman Muglani. "Pioneering efforts in leading technologies like blades and dedicated marketing focus on the SMB segments have definitely contributed to the annual revenue growth," he added.
In the non-x86 Unix server market in India, IBM advanced to No. 2 spot with 30.3 percent revenue market share in Q4 2004, with a 6.4 point lead over its nearest competitor.
