IBM to Acquire Emptoris After DemandTec

Bangalore: IBM has set foot for expansion yet again. After buying DemandTec, a San Mateo, California-based cloud developer in the first week of December 2011, IBM now wants to acquire Emptoris. Emptoris based in Burlington, Massachusetts is a supply chain management analytics specialist.

Emptoris was founded in 1999 and currently has more than 700 employees in various branches worldwide. The financial details are not yet disclosed by IBM. The deal is supposed to be closed by the first quarter of 2012.

DemandTec, a developer of cloud-based application is designed specifically for retailers and marketers which offer clear acumen in terms of demand, pricing, inventory and prevailing market conditions. DemandTec’s software analytical tools help marketers to determine spontaneous customer buying behavior patterns which help companies to reframe pricing, promotions and assortments to increase their cash flow.

By acquiring Emptoris, IBM can turn the cards with improved efficient procurement and supply chain operations by using various business analytical tools. Conjoining Emptoris with IBM can definitely help IBM deliver better and meet the required specific needs of Procurement officers.

Emptoris will be the new addition to the Smarter Commerce initiative by IBM after DemandTec. The Smarter Commerce is a new way for companies to buy, sell or market their products or service .

IBM has planned more acquisitions in the near future to maintain its growth and sustain in the market.  After four acquisitions in this year 2011, only time will tell how many more IBM plans to acquire in 2012.
