IBM is setting up a comprehensive information centre in Tamil Nadu's Nagapattinam town to help the district administration coordinate the post-tsunami relief work. Nagapattinam district has been the worst hit by the Dec 26 tsunami. As many as 33 fishing villages in the region have been devastated and 176,200 people affected when devastating tidal waves crashed through their habitations. As many 4,400 lives have been lost here. Soldiers are regularly finding more bodies along the coast. IBM is busy setting up the system under which a control room will be established at the district collectorate to coordinate relief supplies, Tamil Nadu IT secretary Vivek Harinarayan said. Volunteers equipped with radio sets will pass on information to the IBM centre at the district administration's office about the specific needs of affected areas. All the requirements will be fed to a computer at the control room so that the necessary relief materials can be despatched according to area specific needs.
