Bangalore: The head count in IBM has grown rapidly from 4,000 people in early 2000 to 53,000 by 2006. The company has announced that it is looking at an audacious target of 1-1.2 lakh people in India by 2008. In the last two years, IBM has added 14-16,000 people each year and if the current growth rate continues, IBM will have more than 70,000 workers in India in 2007 almost 25 percent of its current worldwide workforce of 300,000 or more than 50 percent of its U.S. employee headcount of 130,000. The plan to increase head count ? called Vision 2008, is known to key employees. Most of the new entries will be in the Global Technology Services (GTS) and Global Business Services (GBS). Included in the IBM growth story is the acquisition of Daksh eServices, third largest BPO in India. This led to the growth in head count exponentially in the services and the BPO sector.
